Path graph

The path graph with 6 vertices, P_6.
The path graph with \(6\) vertices, \(P_6.\)

A path graph is a free tree in which no vertex has a degree greater than \(2.\) It is the graph you have been drawing all along every time you make a path. The symbol \(P_n\) denotes the path graph with \(n\) vertices.

Every path graph with at least \(2\) vertices has \(2\) vertices with degree \(1\) that represent the start and end of the path. All other vertices, if there are any, have degree \(2.\)
