Sorting algorithm

A sorting algorithm is an algorithm that orders the elements of a sequence. Orderings can be numerical or alphabetical, for example. Being able to sort efficiently is quite important as many algorithms require sorted inputs.

One example of a sorting algorithm is merge sort.
